State conference championship tournaments at a glance

This weekend, leagues around the state will be hosting conference championship tournaments. The Central Connecticut Conference held their championship meet last Saturday with New Britain beating Bristol Eastern by a half point to win the event for the first time. The prep school New England championships are also on Saturday at Greens Farms Academy in Westport.


Eastern Connecticut Conference
Date: Saturday, Feb. 14
Location: Killingly
Last year: 1. Killingly 230, 2. Ledyard 207, 3. Windham 186½

Path to winning titles: Win the league tournament. Division champions determined by earning one point for each dual meet win against teams in your division and one point for each team in your division beaten at the league tournament.
Current divisional point standings: Div. I: Killingly (6-0, 6), Ledyard (5-1, 5), Waterford (4-2, 4); Div. II: Griswold/Wheeler (6-0, 6), Lyman Memorial/WT (5-1, 5)
Of note: Killingly has won six of the last seven ECC championships and the Trailblazers are looking for their third straight ECC title. Wrestling begins at 8:15 a.m. Finals are expected to begin at 2 p.m.


Berkshire League
Date: Saturday, Feb. 14
Location: Gilbert-Winsted
Last year: 1. Gilbert/Torrington/Wolcott Tech 200½, 2. Nonnewaug 163, 3. Terryville/Thomaston 157½

Path to winning league title: Teams earn two points for each dual meet win over a BL team and one point for each BL team they beat at the league tournament.
Current point standings: Nonnewaug 5-0, 10 pts., Gilbert co-op, 3-2, 6; Derby co-op 3-2, 6 and Terryville/Thomaston 3-2, 6
Of note: Nonnewaug is on the verge of winning another BL title. The Chiefs need to finish at least fifth in the field of six teams to win their fourth league title in the last five years.

Path to winning league title: Win the league tournament. Division titles determined by dual meet results against teams in the division
2026 division champions: Western Division — Danbury 7-0; Eastern Division – Ridgefield 7-0
Of note: Wrestling begins Friday at 4:30 p.m. going through the quarterfinals. Wrestling begins Saturday with the semifinals and the finals are expected to begin at 4 p.m. The third place and fifth place bouts will begin at 2 p.m. Warde is looking for their fourth straight FCIAC championship. The last team outside of Danbury to win four consecutive league titles was Staples, who won four straight from 1973-76. Danbury had a run of 23 consecutive FCIAC titles from 1987 through 2009.

North Central Connecticut Conference (NCCC)

Path to winning league title: Teams earn one point for each dual meet win against a NCCC opponent and one point for each NCCC team they beat at the league tournament.
Current point standings: Canton 7-0, 7 pts., Stafford 6-1, 6 pts., Suffield/Windsor Locks 5-2, 5 pts., Rockville 4-3, 4 pts.
Of note:
Canton (17-6) is the defending league champion and looking for their first NCCC Tournament title since 2019. Stafford (15-5) is looking for their first NCCC title since 2024. If Canton wins the tournament, they are the league champion. Stafford can win the league title by winning the tournament and having Canton finish third or lower. If Stafford wins the tournament and Canton finishes second, the two teams will share the championship.


Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC)
Date: Saturday, Feb. 14
Location: Foran-Milford
Last year: 1. Xavier, 271; 2. Foran, 177; 3. Shelton, 124

Path to winning league title: Win the league tournament. Division titles are based on dual meet results.
2026 division champions: Housatonic Division – Xavier 3-0; Hammonasset Division — Notre Dame-WH 3-0; Oronoque Division — North Haven, Guilford and East Haven 2-1; Quinnipiac Division — Shelton 3-0
Of note: Xavier has won the last eight SCC Tournaments, dating back to 2017. Foran was the last SCC team outside of the Falcons to win a SCC championship in 2016. Xavier has won 12 of the last 13 SCC Tournaments dating back to 2011. A SCC girls meet will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Foran along with the Junior Varsity tournament.


SouthWest Conference (SWC)

2026 division champions: Colonial Division – New Milford 5-0; Patriot Division – Weston 4-1
Of note: New Milford has been the dominant team in the league with 19 championships since the tournament began in 1996. Newtown and Bethel have won three SWC tournaments each.


New England championships (Prep Schools)

Of note: GFA has won the last three New England championships and is the favorite to win a fourth consecutive title. The last team to win four in a row was Northfield Mt. Hermon from Gill, Mass., from 2010-13. Phillips Exeter Academy from New Hampshire holds the record for most New England prep school titles with 14, mostly recently in 2017. The state team with the most New England titles is Loomis Chaffee-Windsor, who won four titles in 2002, 2003, 20024 and 2006. … This is the seventh New England championship tournament for girls.
