The editor and founder of Collinsville Publishing Company is Gerry deSimas, Jr., an award-winning Connecticut sportswriter and photographer. He was sports editor of the New Britain Herald and The Herald Press Sunday newspaper from 1995-98, Torrington Register Citizen from 1989-95 and Farmington Valley Herald from 1985-86.

He is a former beat writer for University of Connecticut men’s basketball, New Britain Rock Cats minor league baseball team, Connecticut Wolves pro soccer team and New England Blizzard women’s basketball team. He has covered the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun and New York Liberty for several national publications. He covered the United Football League’s Hartford Colonials for the UFL website and Fanhouse. In 2018, he was the first Connecticut journalist to be inducted into the New England High School Wrestling Hall of Fame.

He is the co-editor of the Connecticut High School Football Record Book and the editor and founder of the Connecticut High School Wrestling Record Book.

Journalistic excellence

Twice, Connecticut Wrestling Online was one of five finalists for the national Outlet of the Year award from the National Wrestling Media Association for 2021-22 and the 2020-21 season.

Connecticut Wrestling Online won first place in the General Excellence, Independent website category for its work in 2008. 

Connecticut Wrestling Online was recognized by the Connecticut chapter of the Society of Professional Journalism with a 2021 Excellence in Journalism award. Editor and website founder Gerry deSimas, Jr., was recognized with a second place award for sports feature in the Regional B division, which includes smaller newspapers and larger websites from around the state. In 2020, Connecticut Wrestling Online received a third place award for sports news in Regional B division.

Connecticut Wrestling Online was a finalist in the 2009 competition hosted by the Connecticut chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists in the category: General Excellence, Independent Website

In 2007, Tom Fortunato honored Connecticut Wrestling Online with its “Web’s Best” Amateur Wrestling recognition.
