Powered by four pins and two major decisions, the Bucknell wrestling team won their ninth match with a 43-9 rout of Sacred Heart at Davis Gym on Saturday night in Lewisburg, Pa.
Visiting Sacred Heart (1-4, 0-3 EIWA) ran out to an early three-point lead, 9-6, on victories from Nick Palumbo (157) and Robert Hetherman (174) but it was all Bison after that. Bucknell (9-2, 5-0 EIWA) has won six straight dual meets. Palumbo improved to 5-2 on the season with his 4-2 decision over Nick Delp in the first match of the day. Hetherman (4-2) got his first pin of the season.
Trailing 9-6 through the first three bouts, the Bison rattled off three-straight pins to flip their deficit into a sizable 24-9 advantage. Bucknell’s Logan Deacetis (184), Mason McCready (197) and Luke Niemeyer (285) each had consecutive first period pins for Bucknell with Niemeyer being the fastest at 1:49.
Standout freshman Kolby DePron (149) put an exclamation mark on Bucknell’s commanding triumph, needing just 1:57 to dispatch Cole McGill by fall in the night’s final bout.
Sacred Heart returns to action on Sunday when they host Franklin & Marshall at noon at the the Pitt Center in Fairfield.
