More than 90 wrestlers from Connecticut will be competing at USA Wrestling’s Junior National and 16 and under national championship tournament in Fargo, North Dakota.

The tournament, which calls itself the largest wrestling competition in the world, will be held on 30 mats in the Fargodome on the campus of North Dakota State beginning on Friday.

The Junior division features high school wrestlers in grades 9-12. The 16U division features athletes who turned 15 or 16 years old in 2026 and is a tournament where athletes can begin to make a name for themselves on the national level.

The Junior Nationals enters its 55th year and has been held annually since the inaugural event held in Iowa City, Iowa, in 1971, except for 2020, when it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 16U (formerly Cadet) Nationals was merged with the Junior Nationals in 1996.
