
Montville’s Gary Wilcox will be honored as the CHSCA coach of the year in wrestling in May.
SOUTHINGTON – Montville High wrestling coach Gary Wilcox will be honored at the Connecticut High School Coaches Association (CHSCA) 55th annual awards banquet on May 9 at the AquaTurf in Southington beginning at 7 p.m.
Wilcox is one of 25 coaches who will be recognized with an Outstanding Coaches of the Year award.
He has been coaching at Montville for 17 seasons and led the Indians to the 2003 Class S state championship. His teams have finished second in either Class S or Class M five times and have captured five ECC divisional titles.
Wilcox led the Indians to a 22-2 record this year and a 4-0 record in the ECC Division III. Montville finished second in Class S this season just 3 1/2 points behind Gilbert. He has a dual meet career record of 338-86.
RHAM’s Mark Logan will receive the Athletic Director of the Year award, Pat Simon will receive the Thomas Monahan CHSCA Honor Award and Larry Duont will be awarded the Joseph J. Fontanta Distinguished Service Award. Michael Barbara of Town Fair Tire will receive the Joseph Calvanese Sportsmanship Award.
