Fairfield Warde graduate Will Ebert had a great weekend on the mat. On Saturday, the wrestler from Binghamton University beat No. 5 Edmond Ruth of Illinois, 2-0, in a dual meet.
On Sunday, Ebert (4-0) won three matches to win his four-person pool at 184 pounds at the Journeyman Collegiate Classic tournament in Bethlehem, Pa. He beat another ranked wrestler by pinning No. 29 Nathan Haas of Cal Baptist in 2:32. In three victories on Sunday, he gave up just one point.
At the Journeyman Collegiate Classic, wrestlers compete in pools of four or five wrestlers. There are no team scores.
Cornell had 14 wrestlers win their respective pools with 10 wrestlers finishing second. Pennsylvania had 10 wrestlers in their pools and eight finish second. North Carolina State had nine wrestlers finish first and eight, including Danbury’s Jakob Camacho (125), finish second.
Illinois and Long Island University each had seven wrestlers win their respective pools.
Sacred Heart participated in the tournament and had two pool winners, two wrestlers that finished second and 14 that finished third. Braxton Fries Appelo (133) and Dakota Asuncion (157) each went 3-0 to win their respective pools.
At the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday, Wesleyan’s C.J. Shea (Milford) won his weight class at 157 pounds with a one-point victory over Vermont State Castleton’s Jashon Holmes, 8-7.
Shea made his debut at 165 pounds in the tournament. He pinned his first opponent before beating Connor Gregory of Castleton by a 4-2 decision in the quarterfinal. The senior advanced to the final following a 9-1 major decision win over the No. 3 seed Scott Busse of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Middletown native Elijah Cyr of Vermont State Castleton finished second at 149 pounds and picked up his 100th collegiate win. Cyr went 4-1 on the day.
Vermont State Castleton won the tournament with Wesleyan finishing third.

Another title for Sandquist
ADRIAN, Michigan, Nov. 10, 2024 – Junior Madison Sandquist won her second individual tournament championship of the season by going 5-0 to win a title at 160 pounds at the Adrian Women’s Invitational on Sunday.
Sandquist had two pins, two technical falls and a decision, including a 12-2 win in 5:46 in the championship match over North Central College’s Shenita Lawson.
It was Sandquist’s second Adrian Women’s Invitational title. She won at 143 pounds in 2022.
Three other Sacred Heart wrestlers brought home medals. Lauren Nguyen finished fourth at 110 pounds by going 4-2 in the tournament. She won her first three matches of the tournament with a technical fall, a pin and an injury default.
Tati Walker (117) and Madeline Hodges (207) each finished fifth in their respective weight classes.
