Binghamton’s Will Ebert is named EIWA wrestler of the week

Fairfield’s Will Ebert, who wrestles for Binghamton, has been named wrestler of the week by the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA), the conference announced Tuesday.

Ebert won all four of his matches over the weekend, defeating two ranked opponents along the way.

Ebert began his season by shutting out No. 5 Edmond Ruth 2-0 in the Bearcats’ dual against No. 17 Illinois on Saturday. Ruth had come off a season in 2023-24 where he won a Big Ten championship and earned All-America honors by finishing seventh at the NCAA wrestling championships.

The next day, Ebert continued his stellar start to the new season at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic. He was victorious in all three of his matches to win his section at 184 pounds.

For his first win of the day, Ebert pinned No. 29 Nathan Haas of California Baptist after going up 7-0 in the match. He followed that with a 4-1 victory over Lock Haven’s Colin Fegley and a 4-0 decision over Penn’s Nate Taylor. Overall, Ebert only allowed one point against his opponents throughout the weekend.
With those performances, Ebert has entered the national rankings. He is ranked No. 21 in the InterMat poll and No. 28 in the FloWrestling poll. He is one of three Binghamton wrestlers to be ranked nationally.

The junior from Fairfield Warde was a two-time State Open champion with the Mustangs and won a New England championship and a NHSCA national title. He went 51-0 in his senior year (2021-22) with 45 of his 51 wins by fall. Ebert was 153-19 in his career.

Ebert and the Bearcats will compete again on Sunday, Nov. 24 at two separate tournaments. One group will wrestle at Cornell’s Big Red Invitational, while another will take part in Army’s Black Knight Invitational.
