
Plymouth’s Cara Broadus won a gold medal at the Junior Pan American Games this week.
GUATEMALA, City, Guatemala, June 6 – Plymouth’s Cara Broadus won a gold medal at the Junior Pan American Games in Guatemala helping the United States freestyle wrestling team win the tournament championship. Broadus went 3-0 at 65 kg (143 pounds).
Broadus was one of three champions for the United States. Alisa Howk (55 kg) and Kenya-Lee Sloan (76 kg) also won titles. The Americans brought home 10 medals including three gold medals, six silver and one bronze medal.
Broadus began her tournament by pinning Brazil’s Thaissa Anibal Ribeiro in 1:51 and outlasting Canada’s Katie Mulkay, 6-5. Ribeiro won bronze medals at the Cadet Pam Am tournament in 2017 and 2018. Broadus won her gold medal by pinning Ecuador’s Jamilex Cumbicos Castillo in 1:04.
The United States won the 10-team tournament with 210 points followed by Canada (134), Brazil (102), Ecuador (72) and Cuba (70).
Broadus trains with the club KT Kidz in Rocky Hill.
