GameTimeCT selects first All-State wrestling team; Jack is wrestler of year

NEW HAVEN, March 26 – GameTimeCT selected their first All-State wrestling team with 12 wrestlers getting named to the team. Previously, the sports website of the Hearst Newspaper media chain selected an All-Area team for the schools in the circulation areas of their respective newspapers.

Danbury junior Ryan Jack, who is ranked No. 4 in the country at 126 pounds, headed up the 12-man team. Not only was he named to the team but he was also selected as the state wrestler of the year.

Jack went undefeated in Connecticut and won the State Open championship for the third straight season. He also brought home his second consecutive New England championship.

Jack and many other Connecticut wrestlers will be competing this weekend at the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) national championship tournaments in Virginia Beach, Va.

GameTImeCT selected two wrestlers at 138 pounds – State Open champion Justin Mastroianni of New Canaan and New England champion Sean Johnson of Ellis Tech, who won four straight Class M championships.

Other wrestlers named to the All-State team included Xavier’s Michael Rapuano (106), Middletown’s Elijah Cyr (113), Danbury’s Kyle Fields (132), New Canaan’s Tyler Sung (145), Suffield/Windsor Locks’ Hunter Adams (152), Tolland’s Michael Angers (160), Joel Barlow’s Carson LiCastri (170), Fairfield Warde’s Joe Gjinaj (195) and Bristol Eastern’s Trinidad Gonzalez (220).
