WESTPORT, February 14 – Greens Farms Academy will be hosting the annual New England Prep School Athletic Association (NEPSAC) New England championships on Friday and Saturday.
Wrestling begins Friday at 5 p.m. in Coyle Gym and will resume on Saturday at 8 a.m.
Belmont Hill School from Belmont, Mass., is the defending New England champion, having won in two of the past three seasons.
A year ago, Brunswick School from Greenwich finished second with Northfield Mt. Hermon taking third.
The Bruins had all 14 wrestlers earn medals at 62nd annual Western New England Independent School Wrestling Association (WNEISWA) championships last week. It was a tournament record sixth straight title for Brunswick, who went 18-1 this season.
The last Connecticut team to win a New England Prep School championship was Windsor’s Loomis-Chaffee. They won the last four of their four New England titles in 2006.
Greens Farms Academy’s Nico Provo, a sophomore from Stratford, is a defending New England champion. He won it at 106 pounds a year ago and will be wrestling at 113.
Loomis Chaffee sophomore Dominic Rossetti (138) will be looking to defend his New England championship along with Brunswick’s Chris Perry (126), who won at 113 pounds a year ago, and Green Farm Academy’s Griffin Seyfried (120).
Northfield Mt. Hermon senior Yaraslau Slavikouski (220) will be looking for a third straight New England championship. He won the last two years at 195 pounds.
