Bristol Eastern completes undefeated season with 2nd straight Class L title

BRISTOL, February 17 — For the first time in school history, Bristol Eastern won back-to-back Class L titles. The Lancers have also posted consecutive undefeated seasons. Eastern had six finalists and four individual champions led by Diego Fernandez (145), Justin Marshall (152), Mike Barrett (160) and Trinidad Gonzalez (195). Eastern was first with 231 points with Xavier finishing second with 196.

New Milford took third with 173. Maloney’s Demetre Carnot (132) won his second straight Class L title and was the outstanding wrestler.

The win came a week after Eastern left the CCC Tournament after weighing in because of a violation of team rules that head coach Bryant Lishness became aware of at that time. He told the Hartford Courant’s Lori Riley that it involved bad team behavior and social media.

Xavier’s Ryan DeVivo (170) won his third straight state title. He won in Class LL in 2016 and 2017. … Fitch’s Jarod Kosman (113), New Milford’s Mel Ortiz (126), Fitch’s Dakota Grover (220), Hand’s Michael Burchell (285) and Barrett and Gonzalez each won their second Class L titles.
