
Danbury was the No. 1 ranked team in the final Connecticut Wrestling Online top 10 poll of the year.
DANBURY, February 27 — For the third straight year and for the fifth time in the last six years, Danbury is the top team in the top 10 state poll. The State Open and Class LL champion Hatters were the unanimous selection of the 17 voters in the Connecticut Wrestling Online top 10 poll. Danbury was the No. 1 team all season.
Bristol Eastern (15-0) and Fairfield Warde (18-1) finished tied for second place. The Lancers won the Class L title while Warde was second in Class LL behind Danbury. Eastern, Warde and Killingly each finished tied for second place at Saturday’s State Open championships.
Southington (13-2) and Xavier (12-5) rounded out the top five in balloting followed by Killingly (31-2) and New Milford (9-1). Class M champion Foran-Milford moved up four spots to No. 8 in the poll. Trumbull (26-3) finished ninth while No. 10 New Canaan moved into the top 10 for the first time this season.
Class S champion Windham (13-5) was just outside of the top 10 at No. 11, five votes shy of New Canaan. Connecticut Wrestling Online took over the poll of coaches and media members this year.
The Norwich Bulletin conducted the poll for 34 years from 1983 through 2017.
