Windham rallies to hold off Griswold

WINDHAM, January 10 — Griswold has been wrestling tough this season. The Wolverines took down defending Class M champion Ellis Tech in December and pushed defending Class S champion Windham hard. Windham’s Sebby Stultz (138) moved up a weight class and won by pin in the final bout of the night to give the Whippets a 41-38 victory. No. 12 Windham improves to 7-0.

With six pins and nine victories, No. 1 Danbury beat No. 6 Trumbull in the only top 10 battle of the evening. Jon Kosak (126) and Joe Palmieri (182) each had one-point decisions for Trumbull (17-2). Danbury (7-0) has won 403 consecutive FCIAC matches. … Trailing by 16 points, New London won the final five matches to beat Ledyard, 42-31, in an exciting ECC Division I bout. … Montville won seven matches by pin in a 57-12 win over Waterford. … No. 4 Fairfield Warde had 10 wins and six pins to beat cross-town rival Fairfield Ludlowe, 50-22. Fairfield Warde’s Alec Nardone (285) tied the state record for fastest pin with a pin in four seconds … Pins from Travis Longo (113), Nick Rende (145), Zach Zeyher (170) and Jacob Robb (195) helped Wilton (6-2) slip past Norwallk, 38-37. … Six pins helped New Canaan beat Brien McMahon, 57-15. … Westhill raced out to an early 18-point lead but Ridgefield won the next matches to earn a 42-31 victory. … With seven pins, No. 10 Hand (9-0) remained undefeated with a 52-25 win over Ellis Tech. … Simsbury’s Alex Kasson (103) had a pin in eight seconds, the second fastest in school history in Simsbury’s 43-34 win over Manchester. . ..Newington won six of 10 matches on the mat but gave up three forfeits and dropped a tight 39-37 decision to New Britain. … In college wrestling, No. 16 WPI won the final three matches to beat No. 20 Coast Guard, 20-12.
