Nine state wrestlers in QF at Lowell event

LOWELL, Mass., Dec. 28 — Nine Connecticut wrestlers have advanced to the quarterfinals at the George Bossi Lowell Holiday Tournament. Southington, which is tenth after day one, has four quarterfinalists – Jacob Cardozo (132), Paul Calo (170), Shawn Wagner (145) and Tagan Welch (152).

Granby has two wrestlers in the quarterfinals – Ben Kibby (182) and Cooper Fleming (152) while Fairfield Warde’s Izaake Zuckerman (160) is also in the quarterfinals. Fitch’s Jarod Kosman and Dakota Grover also made the quarterfinals.

Southington is the top Connecticut team in the field with 72½ points. Mt. Anthony, Vt., leads with 100 points followed by Timberlane, N.H., with 95½

Six pins helped undefeated Bristol Eastern (3-0) beat Simsbury (2-1) in a dual meet, 64-10. …Gilbert is 4-0 after day one of the KSA Disney Holiday Duals in Orlando. The Yellowjackets (6-0) wrestle another four matches on Friday. …  Brunswick-Greenwich finished second at the Pearl River/O’Connell Memorial Tournament with three champions – Chris Perry (120), John DeLucia (160) and Timothy Saunders (182) – and seven finalists. Perry was named outstanding wrestler for lower weights.
