One state wrestler wins medal at Super 32 tournament

One state wrestler Kasjan Wnuk, a middle school student from Orange, won a medal at the Super 32 Challenge on Sunday in Greensboro, North Carolina. Wnuk finished seventh at 235 pounds.

No Connecticut wrestlers finished in the top eight of their respective weight class in the high school or girls division.

Nearly 200 nationally ranked wrestlers registered to compete in the tournament, which is considered one of the deepest high school tournaments on the calendar.

NFA’s Landon Herdic (126) and Canton’s Colby Houle (150) each went 3-2 in the tournament while Xavier’s Zack Dixon (120) and  Winsted’s Devin Schibi (165) each went 2-2 in their respective weight classes. Herdic’s three wins were each pins while Dixon had two pins in the tournament.

Schibi wrestles at Gilbert while Houle, who lives in the Collinsville section of Canton, competes for Northfield Mt. Herman in Northfield, Mass.

The last Connecticut wrestler to win at Super 32 was Milford’s Kayla Batres of Greens Farms Academy a year ago at 106 pounds. The Connecticut boy to win was Danbury’s Jakob Camacho in 2017.
