Of note: With the win, Penn State set a new NCAA Division I dual meet win streak record with the victory, having won its 77 straight dual meet. The old mark was 76 set by Oklahoma St. from 1937 to 1951. Penn State beat North Dakota State, 46-0 earlier in the day.
Provo, a junior at Stanford is from Stratford. He battled No. 2 ranked Luke Liledahl. who nearly scored off the opening whistle, but Provo was able to skip out of the Lions’ low shot to keep the bout scoreless. The duo battled evenly through the next minute-plus, maintaining position in the center of the mat. Lilledahl shot low on Provo, working the single into a scramble s the clock moved through the 0:45 mark. Lilledahl finished off the takedown to lead 3-0 at the 0:33 mark. Provo escaped to a 3-1 score and Lilledahl led by two after the opening period. Provo chose down to start the second period. Lilledahl maintained control through the 1:30 mark before Provo escaped to a 3-2 score. Lilledahl continued to shoot, forcing Provo into defense as the clock hit 1:00. The wrestlers finished the period on their feet and Lilledahl led 3-2 after two. Lilledahl chose down to start the third period and worked his way to a quick escape and a 4-2 lead. The Nittany Lion sophomore worked to set up his offense as the clock moved  into the bout’s final minute. Lilledahl fought off a solid Provo high single at the 0:45 mark. Lilledahl battled off the effort for the rest of the bout and walked away with a 4-2 win.
