PLAINVILLE, Feb. 7, 2025 — Conference championship weekend begins a week early in the Central Connecticut Conference.

Most leagues in the state are holding their respective conference championship tournaments the weekend of Feb. 14-15.

The CCC is hosting their league tournament this weekend at Plainville High. The league got through the quarterfinals on Friday night.

Ordinarily, the quarterfinals would be held Saturday but the league wants to ensure they finish earlier on Saturday with the forecast for significant snow beginning Saturday evening.

After Friday night’s action, East Hartford has a seven-point lead over Southington, 104-97 with Conard in third place with 86 points and Avon in fourth place with 84.5 points. Berlin is fifth with 75.5 points. The Hornets have the most wrestlers remaining with 11 with Southington, Conard and Avon with nine wrestlers still in the tournament. Berlin has 10 wrestlers left.

Wrestling begins on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. and tournament officials estimate the finals will begin around 1 p.m. If you can’t get to the gym, you can watch a live stream.

Simsbury is the defending tournament champion and has won the tournament in two of the last three years. East Hartford’s Jaeckez Mendez is looking to be the first CCC wrestler to win three consecutive CCC titles since the league began holding one tournament in 2022.
