Brunswick wins opener over AOF

AVON, Dec. 6, 2023 – Despite missing several starters, Brunswick School-Greenwich won their season opening match with a 63-14 win over Avon Old Farms on Wednesday.

After a one-year hiatus from the mat, senior co-captain Kyle Pagnani (157) started his team off with a second period pin. Co-captain Whip Gorman (165) followed with a quick pin and wrestling up a weight class, returning All-New England wrestler Jack Degl (175) also earned a first period fall. Brunswick’s Declan Murray (215) also won with a second period pin.

Brunswick’s Owen Bartoszek earned a win against an experienced opponent at 106, which was followed by a forfeit for returning All-New England wrestler Christian Yanoti (113). Marco Sethi (126), retuning All-New England wrestler Michael Accetta (132) and Ethan Phelps (138) also won with pins.

Brunswick (1-0) will travel back to Avon for the Holiday Duals on Saturday, Dec. 9, while the varsity B team will travel to the Skiff Mountain Scuffle at Marvelwood School.
