Challenging weekend ahead for No. 2 Xavier

No. 2 Xavier (4-0) was idle on Wednesday but look to be busy this weekend.

The Falcons will be traveling to Wisconsin this weekend to participate in the National High School Wrestling Duals in LaCrosse, Wisc., or The Clash.

Xavier will face New Prague, Minnesota on Friday morning at 9 a.m. and then wrestles at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in their eight-team bracket with teams from Minnesota, Illinois, California and Missouri. There are three other brackets in the 32-team event. Results on Friday will determine the three teams that Xavier will face on Saturday.

On Wednesday night, No. 1 Danbury remained undefeated (6-0) with a 54-21 win over Trumbull thanks to eight pins in FCIAC West action. Trumbull slips to 10-2 on the season. … With five pins and a technical fall, No. 6 Killingly (11-0) dominated Ledyard, 56-18 in an ECC contest. Four pins were in the first period for Killingly. … No. 10 Southington won their second match of the season with a 46-27 victory over Hall in CCC West match. ..With four pins and 10 forfeits, No. 3 New Milford shutout Notre Dame-New Fairfield, 84-0. … In their first dual meet, Bloomfield dropped a 77-6 decision to Rocky Hill … North Haven won their second meet in team history with a 39-36 win over Jonathan Law.

Wednesday, Jan. 4 results and boxscores

There were two pins in nine seconds on Wednesday night. Avon’s Isaiah Adams (113) and Norwalk’s Lygend Menard (285) each won bouts in nine seconds. Both are the third fastest pin times in their respective weight classes according to the Connecticut High School Wrestling Record Book.
