Not only did Coast Guard win on Saturday at the Ted Reese Invitational in Gorham, Maine but the Bears won with bonus points with a major decision (eight points), a technical fall or pin to beat No. 22 Castleton University to win the tournament for the fifth straight year.

With eight finalists and seven individual champions in 10 weight classes, Coast Guard outlasted Castleton, 187½ to 168 to win the championship. The Bears won 57 matches in the tournament and 46 were bonus point victories. Coast Guard has won tournament in consecutive weeks, having won the Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield College a week ago.

In Maine at the Ted Reese Invitational, Coast Guard’s Steven Rochard (165) went 4-0 with a technical fall, two pins and a major decision to beat the No. 2 ranked wrestler in New England – Castleton’s Michael Angers (Tolland) — to win the tournament. Rochard was named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler.

Also winning individual titles today were Chase Randall (133), Joe Chapman (157), David McCullough (184) and Coy Spooner (197). Coast Guard teammates Noah Caskey (Montville) and A.J. Pagliarulo shared the title at 141 pounds.

Castleton’s Cooper Fleming (Granby) also won a championship at 174 pounds with a pin of Coast Guard’s Daniel Gibson in 2:12.
