Seven state wrestlers remain in the championship bracket at the National High School Coaches Association’s (NHSCA) national championship tournaments after Friday’s action in Virginia Beach, Va.
In the Senior Division tournament, six Connecticut wrestlers advanced to the quarterfinals – Guilford’s Chris Murphy (182), Canton’s Ethan Titus (113), Simsbury’s John Mairano (132), Danbury’s Kai O’Dell (138), Norwalk’s Michael Bartush (195) and Fairfield Warde’s Will Ebert (160).
Brendan Gilchrist of Norwalk (195) advanced to the quarterfinals of the Junior Division tournament.
Wrestling continues Saturday in the Senior, Junior, Sophomore and Freshman tournaments. There are 116 Connecticut wrestlers still alive in the consolation brackets of the respective tournaments.
Action begins on Saturday in the girls tournament and the middle school tournament.
