TULSA, Oklahoma, Jan. 18, 2021 – Three young Connecticut wrestlers competed and won medals over the weekend at the 66th annual Tulsa Nationals youth wrestling tournament.
Milford’s Kayla Batres won the 82 pound division in the 12-and-under division with a 4-0 record. She had one pin in the tournament and beat Epenesa Elison of Downey, California, 6-0 in the final. Batres trains with South Side Wrestling in Bridgeport.
Norwalk’s Nicky Singer was third in the 110 pound division in the boys 12-and-under division. Singer was 6-1 in the tournament with a pin and a technical fall. Singer beat Lorenzo Gallego of Albuquerque, New Mexico in the consolation final.
Colby Houle, who lives in the Collinsville section of Canton, was fifth at 92 pounds in the 12-and-under division. Houle was 6-2 with two pins and a technical fall. Houle beat Gavin Rangel of Hillsboro, Oregon, 1-0 to finish fifth.
An estimated 2,500 wrestlers from across the country participated in three-day event in Tulsa, which organizers claim is the toughest tournament in the world.
