Stratford’s Nico Provo will attend Cornell University next fall, according to officials at Greens Farms Academy in Westport where Provo is a senior.
Cornell isn’t wrestling this year thanks to the Ivy League cancelling all intercollegiate activity this winter due to the coronavirus. Green Farms has not resumed wrestling yet, either.
Provo will bring an impressive resume to the Big Red. He is a two-time Prep School All-American, who won a gold medal at the PanAm Cadet Games in Mexico in June 2019.
He is a two Prep School national tournament All-American, a three-time Prep School New England champion (2018-20), a Super 32 finalist (2019), three-time Connecticut Prep School champion and a top 100 recruit, who has been ranked as high as No. 3 in the country by FloWrestling.
Provo wrestled at 120 pounds last March for Greens Farms. In the offseason, Provo trains at South Side Wrestling club in Bridgeport.
Provo hopes to get back on the mat for Greens Farms the winter but the pandemic may make that impossible.
“You deal with the cards you’re dealt,’” Provo told the school’s Athletic Blog. “You can only control what you can control, and I can’t control COVID-19, as much as I wish I could. I’ve had a lot of time to deal with it. You look back and think of all those memories and you want one last season. But life goes on. You have to be ready for what’s next. If anything happens, I’ll be ready. I know I will.”
