Ryan signs letter of intent to wrestle at Buffalo

TRUMBULL, May 19, 2020 – Former Trumbull High wrestler Matthew Ryan has signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Buffalo, a Division I program in the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

Ryan graduated from Trumbull in 2019 where he won a pair of Class LL championships in 2019 and 2017. Twice, he earned medals at the New England championships, finishing sixth in 2018 and 2019. He was 48-9 as a senior with the Eagles.

This past winter, Ryan wrestled for St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, New Jersey, at 138 pounds, helping the Gray Bees post a 13-1 record and an eleventh place finish at the Prep School national tournament.

At the nationals, Ryan earned All-American status by finishing seventh at 138 pounds. He went 4-2 in the tournament with two pins and two technical fall victories.

This past winter, Buffalo went 9-11 in dual meets and finished tenth out of 15 teams at the MAC championships.
