Stratford’s Nico Provo wins bronze at Cadet Pan American championships

Stratford’s Nico Provo won a bronze medal for the United States at the 2019 Cadet Pan American championships in Morelia, Mexico on Friday (June 28).

Wrestling at 51 kilograms or 112 pounds in Greco-Roman, Provo dropped his first match of the tournament but won two of his final three matches to claim a bronze medal.

The Americans won eight gold medals and one bronze medal. The United States went 27-2 and won the overall team championship.

Provo lost his tournament opener to Peru’s Enrique Herrera-Huacre, 6-2 but pinned Argentina’s Eduardo Lovera. After a 5-4 loss to Mexico’s Segura Tellez, Provo beat Guatemala’s Marlon Godinez-Perez, 10-1 for the bronze medal.

Provo is a student at Greens Farms Academy in Westport. He won his second straight New England Prep School championship in February.
