Undefeated Cannone helps Wartburg win another conference title

DUBUQUE, Iowa, February 8 – Trumbull senior Cross Cannone, the defending NCAA Division III national champion, picked up his 23rd win of the season as Wartburg College won the American River Conference title with a 23-16 win over No. 8 Loras.

Milford’s Michael Ross, who is ranked No. 4 at 165 pounds, earned a 4-0 decision for Wartburg, which finishes the dual meet season at 15-1 and 8-0 in American Rivers.

Cannone, who is 23-0 at 157 pounds, is the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the nation. He beat No. 5 Brandon Murray, 12-9.

Cannone has won 57 matches dating back to the 2017 NCAA Division III tournament. He leads the team in wins this year (23) and has 110 career wins.

Wartburg returns to action on Feb. 22-23 for the NCAA Division III regionals in Iowa.
