LARAMIE, Wyo., November 3 – Junior Alec Opsal of Air Force earned a spot in the finals at the Cowboy Open on the campus of the University of Wyoming for a second straight year on Saturday. Opsal finished second at 149 pounds in the elite division with a record of 3-1. He had two pins in the tournament.
Opsal, a New Fairfield High graduate, is beginning his third year with the Air Force wrestling team. As a sophomore, he was 13-7 with a 7-1 dual meet record and a 5-1 mark in Big 12 action. He had five pins and finished first in the Cowboy Open at 141.
As a freshman, he was 16-9 overall and led the Air Force with nine pins. Opsal hopes to major in aeronautical engineering with plans for a career in engineering or cyber defense.
The Falcons return to action this Friday, Nov. 9, when they open their home and dual schedule by hosting No. 9 Minnesota.
