Jack, DeVivo take 6th at Beast of the East

NEWARK, Del., Dec. 17 – Danbury’s Ryan Jack (120) and Xavier’s Ryan DeVivo (170) each went 5-3 at the 25th annual Beast of the East wrestling tournament at the Bob Carpenter Center on the campus of the University of Delaware Sunday to finish sixth and earn medals at the prestigious tournament.

Jack lost in the quarterfinal to Michael Colaiocco of Blair Academy, 10-2. Colaiocco won for the third straight year and was named Outstanding Wrestler. Jack went 2-2 in the consolation round to take sixth. DeVivo dropped a 7-1 decision to eventual champion Julian Ramirez of Blair Academy in the quarterfinals before going 2-2 in the consolation round to finish sixth.

Danbury’s Gino Barrata (170) went 4-2 in the tournament while New Canaan’s Justin Mastrioanni (126), Tyler Sung (138) and Danbury’s A.J. Kovacs (145) each went 3-2.

New Canaan – Mastrioanni (126) 3-2, Sung (138) 3-2
Xavier – Devivo (170) 5-3, Dylan Sousa (182) 1-2
