Two state wrestlers qualify for NCAA Division III nationals

No Connecticut wrestlers are among the 280 automatic qualifiers in the 2011 NCAA Division I tournament. Fifty at-large selections will be announced Wednesday, March 16.

In Division III, two Connecticut wrestlers qualified for the NCAA Division III national tournament.

Waterford’s Brennan Ward, a senior with Johnson and Wales, won the New England Wrestling Association title at 184 pounds to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament. He entered the tournament with 31-2 records. Williams’ Corey Paulish (149) won the NEWA title and qualified with a record of 25-7.

Editor’s note: Neither wrestler (Ward, Paulish) placed in the top eight of their respective weight classes at the 2011 NCAA Div. III national tournament.
