Seventeen Connecticut wrestlers were selected to be part of the National High School Coaches Association’s (NHSCA) Academic All-American team.
Two state wrestlers were named to the first team, five were named to the second team and 10 received honorable mention recognition.
All nominees were required to carry a minimum grade point average of 3.6 on a scale of 4.0.
Brookfield High senior Matthew Carrozza and Greens Farms Academy senior Peter Kane (Fairfield) were named to the first team Academic All-American team.
Newtown’s Luca Manfredi, Ridgefield’s Nathan Blaha and Dominic Barrella and Greens Farms Academy’s Nathan Taylor and Marcus Murabito were named second team Academic All-Americans.
It’s the 28th year that the NHSCA has honored athletes from across the country in 22 different sports with Academic All-American honors.
