Ryan Jack wins three matches at UWW Junior Nationals

OMAHA, Neb., Nov. 15, 2020 – Ryan Jack, the Danbury freshman at North Carolina State, hit the mat this weekend to compete at the United World Wrestling (UWW) Junior Nationals for athletes ages 17-20.

Jack, who was wrestling at 61 kilograms (134 pounds), went 3-2 in the freestyle tournament.

He beat Caleb Gross of Jackrabbit Wrestling Club and South Dakota State, 11-5 in his first bout in the round of 128. In his second bout, Jack beat Bryce Nickel of University of Cumberlands (Williamsburg, Ky.), 15-10 before winning his round of 32 bouts with a 2-0 win over Tyson Humphries, a four-time state champion in Utah.

Jack lost to Samuel Hillegas of Southeast Regional Training Center and Virginia Tech by tech fall, 10-0 in 3:35. Hillegas eventually finished third in the tournament.

That was the final match of the day for Jack, who medically defaulted in his first consolation round match.
