All four state tournaments will be one-day events on Saturday

Due to an impending winter storm on Friday, the CIAC has revised the schedule for their four state championship wrestling tournaments this weekend.

There will be no wrestling on Friday and each tournament will be conducted on Saturday, beginning with wrestling at 9:30 a.m. at Trumbull (Class LL), Wilton (Class L), Guilford (Class M) and Killingly (Class S).

One of the adjustments to a single day of competition is that wrestlers who lose in the round of 32 will be eliminated. In previous years, wrestlers who lost in the round of 32 would drop into the consolation bracket.

Wrestlers are limited by national federation rules to six matches in a day. Some wrestlers in the consolation bracket going for third and fifth place could run out of matches on Saturday.

If needed, any match for third place or fifth place that can’t be wrestled on Saturday — due to one or both wrestlers reaching the limit of six matches — will be wrestled on Sunday at Trumbull High beginning at noon. Wrestlers will have to weigh in on Sunday.

The gyms are scheduled to open for spectators on Saturday at 9 a.m.

The following is the CIAC’s expected schedule for the tournaments on Saturday.

9:30 a.m., Round of 32, single-elimination
