As the regular season comes to a close, Xavier remains No. 1 in the most recent Connecticut Wrestling Online top 10 poll.
The Falcons (11-4) won their eight straight Southern Connecticut Conference championship on Saturday and finished another undefeated dual meet season in Connecticut (9-0).
Xavier has won 58 consecutive dual meets against Connecticut teams since 2019. The last defeat to a Connecticut team came against Danbury on January 26, 2019, in a 37-27 loss. They’ve still got a ways to go to challenge the state record of 262 wins against Connecticut opponents set by Danbury from 1996 through 2010.
The Falcons have been ranked No. 1 for 30 consecutive weeks, dating back to week one of the 2023 season when Danbury was the top ranked team in the poll.
Fairfield Warde (19-2) moved up two spots to No. 2 after winning their fourth straight FCIAC championship on Saturday and beating then-No. 2 Danbury last week. With their second place finish at the FCIAC tournament, Ridgefield (13-2) moved up three spots to No. 3. It was the best finish for the Tigers in the tournament.
Danbury (12-2) finished third at the FCIAC championships and slipped two spots to No. 4.
New Milford (10-3) and Trumbull (14-3) tied for No. 5 in the poll. The Green Wave won the Southwest Conference tournament for the fifth time in six seasons on Saturday while the Eagles were fourth at the FCIAC tournament.
Ledyard (18-4) won their first ECC championship since 2017 on Saturday and moved up two spots to No. 7.
Foran (31-2), who has the most dual meet wins in the state this season, slipped to No. 8 in this week’s poll, down five spots from No. 3.
New Britain (22-2), which has the most wins in a single season in team history, moved up one spot to No. 9 while Killingly (26-2), which finished second at the ECC Tournament, slipped two spots to No. 10.
There will be no poll after this weekend’s Class LL, L, M and S championship meets. The final poll of the season will be conducted after the State Open.
