Wrestlers earn medals at preseason national tournament

Norwalk’s Ryan Schneider won at a preseason national tournament in Iowa over the weekend.

Three Connecticut wrestlers earned medals at the Brian Keck Memorial Preseason national tournament in Des Moines, Iowa over the weekend while two earned medals in the USA Boys National Recruiting Showcase.

Norwalk’s Ryan Schneider of South Side Wrestling Club and Greens Farms Academy won the grade 11-12 tournament at 285 pounds. Schneider went 3-0 with two pins and a 4-0 victory over Caleb Tyler of Fairfield, Pennsylvania in the championship match.

Hubert Szymko of South Side WC finished second at 165 in the grades 9-10 tournament while Braylon Gonzalez of KD Training Center took fourth at 144 pounds in the grades 11-12 tournament.

In the national recruiting showcase event, Jaxsen Bailey (132) finished fourth while Joseph Mahoney (150) finished seventh.
