Plainville’s Jaxsen Bailey capped off an outstanding week at the USA Wrestling Junior and 16U national championship meet by earning his second All-American medal in Greco Roman on Saturday.

Bailey, who will be a sophomore at Greens Farms Academy in Westport, finished fourth in the 16U (16 and under) tournament at 126 pounds. Earlier in the week, he earned All-American honors by finishing seventh at 126 in the 16U freestyle tournament.

Several other Connecticut wrestlers had multiple wins in the Greco-Roman tournament but only Bailey brought home a championship medal.

Bailey is the first Connecticut boy to bring home multiple medals since Fairfield’s Tim Kane in 2015. Kane finished third in Cadet freestyle and sixth in Cadet Greco-Roman. The 16U tournament was known as the Cadet Division prior to 2018.

Bailey won his first four matches in the Greco-Roman tournament with two pins and a technical fall before losing in the semifinal to Illinois’ Robert Ruscitti, 9-0 in 2:57. Ruscitti eventually won the tournament.

Bailey beat Nevada’s Abraham Coronado in the consolation semifinals with a pin in 2:49. But Bailey (5-2) lost to Arkansas’ Trestin Houck in the consolation final by pin in 1:12. Bailey beat Houck earlier in the tournament in the quarterfinals, 9-0 in 1:51.

Bailey went 11-4 in the two tournaments.

Other state wrestlers to win a Greco-Roman and freestyle medal at the USA Wrestling Junior nationals included Southington’s Zack Murillo (2014), Simsbury’s Joey Martin (2004), Berlin’s Nick Ciarcia (1998), Glastonbury’s Kevin Egolf (1998) and New Fairfield’s Tom Serrano (1996).

Other 16U state wrestlers with multiple wins in Greco Roman tournament included Bristol Central’s Alex Lamarre (144, 4-2), Trumbull’s Hubert Szymko (165, 4-2), South Windsor’s Zack Dixon (113, 3-2), Old Lyme’s Jonathan Toriello (106, 3-2) and Fairfield Warde’s Christian Lopez (175, 2-2).

In the Junior Division Greco-Roman tournament, Southington’s Chase Kastner (126) had the most wins, going 6-2 with four consecutive wins in the consolation bracket. He finished with four technical falls in the tournament.

Marlborough’s Jackson Heslin (126) went 4-2 while Milford’s Eli Shea (100), Fairfield’s Jude Grammatico (132), Trinity-Pawling’s Maxx Miller (190) and Norwalk’s Ryan Schneider (215) were each 2-2.

Kastner, Heslin, Shea and Schneider all wrestle at Greens Farms Academy in Westport.
