No. 2 Wolfpack win two of three, can’t catch Ohio State

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 19, 2023 – Three consecutive pins in the first three matches of the dual meet helped lift No. 10 Ohio State to a 21-20 win over No. 2 North Carolina State on Tuesday at day two of  the Journeyman Wrestling’s Collegiate Wrestling Duals.

The Wolfpack (9-1), who lost their first dual meet of the season, did beat No. 25 Northern Iowa, 25-16 and winless Lock Haven, 35-3.

Ohio State ran out to an 18-0 with three surprising pins. Danbury natives Jakob Camacho (125) and Ryan Jack (141) were both pinned. North Carolina State won six of the final seven matches but they a point short. In the final match, NC State’s Owen Trephan snapped a 5-5 tie with a late takedown and prevailed, 8-6. But he needed to win with bonus points for the Wolfpack to prevail.

Camacho had a rough day with three losses, including a pair of 4-2 defeats against Lock Haven and Northern Iowa. Jack went 1-1 on the day, getting pinned against Ohio State while picking up a win against Lock Haven. Danbury native AJ Kovacs (165) picked up a 4-1 win against Lock Haven.
