State championship tournaments conclude today

Trumbull, Xavier, Berlin and Killingly have the lead after day 1 at the CIAC state wrestling tournaments.

On Saturday, action begins at 11 a.m. The semifinals begin Saturday at noon at all four locations with the medal round, including the finals, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Host Trumbull leads the Class LL tournament with co-champion East Hartford in second place. At the Class L meet in Guilford, No. 1 Xavier has a commanding 20½ point lead over No. 2 New Milford and No. 6 Newtown.

At the Class M meet at Jonathan Law in Milford, Berlin has a 6½ point lead over No. 7 RHAM with just 8½ points separating the top four teams.

No. 10 Killingly is hosting the Class S championship meet and Killingly has a two-point lead over ECC rival Windham, 103-101 after day 1. New Fairfield is third with 90½ points followed by defending champion Haddam-Killingworth with 90 points.

In the New England Prep School championships in Andover, Mass., Westport’s Greens Farms Academy leads by six points over defending New England champion Northfield Mt. Hermon, 72-66. The Dragons, who went 14-for-14 in the finals of last week’s Western New England championship tournament, have all 14 wrestlers alive in the championship bracket as wrestling begins today at Phillips Andover.

GFA is looking for their first New England championship.

Tickets for the CIAC tournaments are not available at the door. They must be purchased online. The four CIAC tournaments will be streamed on FloWrestling and through the NFHS network. There are subscription fees for both streaming services.
