Qualifying tournaments for upcoming national championship events will be underway this weekend.
The University of Southern Maine will be hosting the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional on Saturday and Sunday with the top three wrestlers in each of 10 weight classes earning a spot at the NCAA Division III national championships in Virginia on March 10-11.
Coast Guard is the defending Northeast Regional champion and Trinity College and Wesleyan University will be competing at the event.
East Stroudsburg University is hosting the NCAA Division II Super Region I tournament with the top three wrestlers from this event advancing to the NCAA Division II national championship meet in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 10-11.
American International College will be competing in this tournament and former Bristol Eastern wrestler Tommy Nichols of AIC is ranked fourth at 149 pounds.
In Springfield, nationally ranked Springfield Technical Community College will be hosting the National Collegiate Wrestling Association’s Northeast Region championship meet on Saturday.
This is the governing body for schools with club programs, including UConn.
The top six wrestlers in each weigh class will earn an invitation to the NCWA’s national championship meet in Puerto Rico on March 9-11 in San Juan. The Northeast Regonal is one of nine NCWA regional tournaments being held this weekend.
Springfield Tech CC is ranked No. 7 in the country by the NCWA.
