A team from South Side Wrestling Club in Bridgeport won the American Division championship in the high school division at the Columbus Day Duals this weekend at Spooky Neck Sports in Manheim, Pa.
South Side beat Triumph of Ocean, N.J., 45-13 to win the American Division title. There were 48 teams in the American Division. Another 48 teams competed in the National Division that was won by Team Thunder.
South Side went 8-1 in the dual meet tournament. Chris Murphy (Greens Farms Academy), Raekwon Shabazz (Xavier) and Jake Kszywanos (Stratford) all went 9-0 on the weekend for Southside with Braden McDermott (Trumbull) finishing 8-1.
Ronnie Christolin (GFA) and Brady Kaupp (GFA) were each 7-2 for South Side with Dominick Spadaro (GFA), Owen Sheiman (Fairfield Warde), Cayden Talento (Platt), Zach Broszka (St. Joseph) and John Schneider (GFA) each finishing 6-3 in the tournament. Tyler Shea (GFA) went 5-4.
GFA’s Ben Zuckerman wrestled with Team Aliens while GFA’s Jackson Heslin competed with Team Thunder and beat Tyler Chappell, a senior from Pennsylvania, who has committed to wrestle at Pittsburgh.
