SALISBURY, Maryland, April 30, 2022 – Jake Maddox from the Sandy Hook section of Newtown won the Intermediate Division at the 2022 MAWA (Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association) Eastern Nationals recently.
Maddox, a seventh grade student who trains with The Refinery RTC, went 3-0 with two pins and didn’t allow a point in the tournament.
MAWA serves about 11,000 folkstyle wrestlers in 17 states including New England and the Middle Atlantic states (Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Maddox went 3-0 with two pins in his MAWA district qualifying tournament and went 4-0 at the regional finals to earn a spot at the Eastern National tournament.
Earlier this spring, he went 6-1 to take third at the Ohio Tournament of Champions in the 15U age group at 140 pounds. He won the state Middle School title and the Youth New England tournament at 136 pounds in March.
