Eight Sacred Heart wrestlers earn EIWA Academic Achievement Award

Eight Sacred Heart wrestlers were recognized with EIWA Academic Achievement Awards from the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association.

Wrestlers need to have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 or more and have participated in the recent EIWA championship tournament.

Sacred Heart’s Jacob Venezia (3.87 GPA), Joe Accousti of Newtown (3.84), Anthony Petrillo (3.63), Jordan Carlucci (3.77), Alexander Marciniak (3.56), Rafael Lievano (3.48), Nicholas Copley (3.36) and Ryan Bolletino (3.31) received the Academic Achievement Award.

Eight of the ten Pioneer wrestlers in the EIWA Tournament were recognized. Sacred Heart, Drexel, Harvard, Hofstra, Pennsylvania and EIWA champion Cornell each had eight wrestlers honored with the award.

Devin Matthews, a sophomore from Long Island University, also received an EIWA Academic Achievement. Matthews, who graduated from the Gilbert School in Winsted, has a 3.53 GPA. LIU had the most wrestlers to receive the Academic Achievement award – nine.
