Binghamton University won eight of 10 bouts, earned bonus points in six matches and had four pins as the Bearcats rolled to a 39-7 win over Sacred Heart Saturday at the Pitt Center in Fairfield in EIWA action.

For the Bearcats, it was their 12th straight win over Sacred Heart dating back to 2007. It was the first of two home meets for the Pioneers this season at the Pitt Center.

Leading by eight points, 15-7, midway through the match, Binghamton (3-5) erupted for five straight wins, including four by pin to secure the victory.

Bearcat sophomore Brevin Cassella (10-6) started the rally with a second period pin of Scott Jarosz for his sixth bonus-point won of the season. Junior Jacob Nolan (11-3) needed just 58 seconds to pin Sacred Heart’s Robert Hetherman for his seventh dual meet win in eight bouts.

Binghamton’s Sam DePrez (184) beat Joe Accousti, the senior from Newtown, 3-1 before a pair of nationally-ranked wrestlers closed out the match with victories. No. 12 Lou DePrez (197) won with a pin in 5:52 to improve to 13-2 on the year while No. 22 Joe Doyle earned a 7-2 win over Sacred Heart’s Mark Blokh to improve to 7-2.

Kyle Randall got Sacred Heart on the board early with a 15-4 win over Nick Curley at 125 pounds to give the Pioneers an early 4-0 lead.

But Binghamton stole the momentum pretty quickly. Senior Anthony Sobotker (133) pinned Sacred Heart’s Anthony Petrillo in 3:20 for his ninth pin in 10 wins this season. Sobotker improves to 10-6.

Nick Palumbo’s advantage in riding time gave him a 2-1 win over Binghamton’s Tyler Martin at 157 pounds.

Sacred Heart is off for the holidays and returns to action on January 7 when they travel to the David Lehman Open in Lancaster, Pa.
