Johnson makes debut with George Mason; Brick wins three bouts

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J., Jan. 24, 2021 – Tyler Johnson, a freshman from Danbury, made his varsity debut with the George Mason University wrestling team on Sunday.

Johnson dropped an 8-5 decision to Rider’s Wyatt McCarthy at 149 pounds in the dual meet with the Broncos. Johnson got another chance to wrestle and dropped a 16-0 loss by technical fall to Rider’s McKenzie Bell.

In their season-opening match, George Mason (0-1, 0-1 MAC) dropped nine of 10 matches in a 32-3 loss to host Rider (2-1, 2-0 MAC) in the Mid-American Conference dual meet. The Patriots return to action on Sunday when they participate in a tri-meet with Central Michigan and Ohio University.

Brick wins three of four matches
MEQUON, Wisc., Jan. 24, 2021 – Southington freshman Caleb Brick (157) went 3-1 with a pair of forfeits as the Milwaukee School of Engineering went 2-2 in the season-opening four team meet on Sunday. Milwaukee beat Cartage, 41-6 and Lakeland, 41-12 and dropped a 38-10 loss to Concordia-Wisconsin and a 32-9 loss to Wheaton. Brick had a pin and a pair of forfeits.
