No high school wrestling in Vermont this winter due to COVID-19

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vermont has cancelled wrestling and indoor track for the upcoming winter season, according to media reports coming from the state. USA Wrestling said Vermont is the first state to cancel wrestling at the high school level due to COVID-19.

Media reports in Vermont said that the Vermont Principal’s Association, the governing body for high school athletics in the state, released their guidance for winter sports on Tuesday with no wrestling or indoor track this winter and no spectators allowed to watch basketball or hockey games. Competition between schools won’t begin until January 11.

Sports that compete will have a limited schedule. Officials said that priority was to help limit the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus to support continued in-person instruction at schools in the state. Read more in the following two stories.
