The 2020 New England Prep School tournament was held in March at the State Armory in Hartford.
The Founders League has cancelled all interscholastic sports for the winter season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league announced on Friday.
Five of the league’s 11 schools participate in wrestling – Loomis-Chaffee in Windsor, Avon Old Farms, Hotchkiss School in Salisbury, Taft School in Watertown and Trinity-Pawling in Pawling, N.Y.
“In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and after many discussions prioritizing community health, safety and well-being the Founders League has unanimously, and with great regret, decided to cancel all Founders League interscholastic competition for the 2020-21 winter season,” the league said in a posting on their league website.
Trinity-Pawling was fifth at last March’s New England Prep School championships with Avon Old Farms finishing eighth. Loomis-Chaffee was a top 20 finisher taking 18th place.
Along with wrestling, competition was cancelled in basketball (boys and girls), ice hockey (boys and girls), swimming (boys and girls) and squash (boys and girls).
The Founders League cancelled all fall sports activities in July and did not field any interscholastic teams this fall.
Connecticut Wrestling Online has been covering the sport of wrestling in Connecticut and New England since 2001.
