With the regular season complete and the conference tournaments in the rear view mirror, Danbury remains the unanimous selection as the No. 1 team in this week’s Connecticut Wrestling Online top 10 poll in voting by coaches and media members from across the state.
The defending New England champion Hatters finished the season unbeaten (16-0) and have won 20 consecutive dual meets dating back to the 2019 campaign. Danbury won the FCIAC Tournament on Saturday for the 33rd time in 34 years.
Simsbury (14-1), Fairfield Warde (19-1), Xavier (8-0), Bristol Eastern (12-1) and Southington (17-2) remained No. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, respectively, as they have for the past four weeks.
There were no teams in the top 10 this week although there was some shuffling in three of the final four spots. Staples (22-5) finished third at Saturday’s FCIAC Tournament and moved up two spots to No. 7.
After winning their first 22 matches of the season Bristol Central (22-2) ended the season with a pair of top 10 losses to No. 5 Bristol Eastern and No. 6 Southington and slipped one spot to No. 8. Trumbull slipped one spot to No. 9.
Killingly won their third straight ECC championship and moved up one spot to No. 11 with East Haven moving up to No. 12 after finishing second in Saturday’s Southern Connecticut Conference meet.
The final poll of the 2019-20 season will be conducted after the State Open championships. There will be no poll next week.
