RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 14 – Danbury’s Jakob Camacho watched from the sideline for most of the season as he was redshirted at North Carolina State.

But the redshirt freshman is expected to get his first varsity start on Friday night when No. 9 North Carolina State opens the season by hosting Old Dominion beginning at 7 p.m., in Reynolds Coliseum.

Camacho, who is currently ranked No. 13 in the nation, is expected to get the nod at 125 pounds against No. 7 Michael McGee, a two-time NCAA tournament qualifier. McGee is a two-time Mid-American Conference (MAC) champion at 125 and was the conference’s freshman of the year in 2018.

Wrestling unattached, Camacho went 26-3 last winter taking third at the Southern Scuffle last January in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He also won the National Collegiate Open title at 125 last February in Delaware.

The match will be streamed online on ACC Network Extra.

It will be a busy weekend in Raleigh for the Wolfpack. On Saturday, the Pack will host the Wolfpack Duals at Carmichael Gymnasium. Action starts at noon. On Sunday, the Wolfpack Wrestling Club Open will start at 9 a.m. at Carmichael Gymnasium.
