BENNINGTON, Vt., January 21, 2019 – Top-ranked Danbury had six pins as they beat Mt. Anthony Union on their home floor at Kates Gymnasium on Monday in the traditional Martin Luther King, Jr., Day match, 49-22.
The 27-point margin of victory is the largest for Danbury (8-0) in the 19-year series. It was just Danbury’s second win over Mt. Anthony since 2012. The Hatters beat Mt. Anthony in 2016, 34-23.
Danbury had little trouble on this frigid night in Kates Gymnasium, racing out to a 28-0 lead with victories in the first five matches. The lead was 34-6 after seven matches.
Kevin Pina (113), Tyler Johnson (120), Kyle Fields (132), Ben LeBlanc (145), Tyrell Jones (160) and D.J. Donovan (220) each had pins for the Hatters.
Mt. Anthony leads the series, 13-6 and owns the largest margin of victory when they beat the Hatters by 39 points in 2002, 54-15. The two closest bouts were in 2010 when the Patriots prevailed, 31-30 and in 2005 when Danbury beat Mt. Anthony for the first time, 29-27.
