WAVERLY, Iowa, January 19, 2019 – Trumbull’s Cross Cannone continues to roll through his senior season with the No. 3 Wartburg College wrestling team.
Cannone, the defending NCAA Division III national champion at 157 pounds, won three more bouts on Saturday to improve to 20-0 on the season. Cannone, who has 54 consecutive wins, has won 105 collegiate matches. He is ranked No. 1 in the nation.
Cannone had a pair of wins by tech fall to become the all-time leader in career tech falls (32), surpassing the previous record of 30 by Kyle Frank.
Against Buena Vista, Cannone moved up to 165 pounds and beat Brad Kerkhoff, the No. 10 ranked wrestler in the country, 12-0.
Milford’s Michael Ross, a sophomore from Foran High, won twice at 165 for Wartburg and has won seven straight bouts. Ross is ranked No. 5 in the country.
Wartburg (13-1, 6-0 American Rivers) is ranked No. 3 in the nation and won all three league matches on Saturday over Buena Vista University, 44-3, University of Dubuque 43 to minus 1 and Central College, 31-9.
