LAS VEGAS, Nev., April 25 – Coventry’s Shirzah Ahmadi, who has won 13 gold medals at the Veterans World Championships, added another U.S. national championship to his resume on Wednesday night.
Ahmadi (62 kg or 136 pounds) beat a multiple world championship medalist Steve Barkman to win the title, winning two of three bouts. Ahmadi, 69, was a long-time coach at Stafford High and is now an assistant coach at Trinity College. He now trains with KT Kidz in Rocky Hill.
